Provo
In 2007, St. Mary’s celebrated 107 years of service. Located some 45 miles south of Salt Lake City, it is the only Episcopal Church in Utah County. Its Victorian jewel of a church hails from 1892, its parish hall and classrooms were added in the early 1960s. Thanks to Project Jubilee funds, additional property was purchased in the 1990s to secure adequate parking space. As an inner city mission congregation seeking to serve, our major asset is St. Mary’s People. These have weathered times of major industry closings, membership dips, and much clergy turnover. These individuals and families sustain St. Mary’s as a “pitstop” for those from other traditions who hunger for an experience of intellectual freedom, blessing, grace, and spiritual respite. St. Mary’s People also volunteer at our local Food and Care ministry. We currently host 10-13 Twelve Step meetings each week. We are exploring sharing our space with a fast growing Latino congregation from the Seventh-day Adventist tradition. We will undertake a major re-visioning process in 2010 to refine our mission and ministry and discern ways to support a continued, valuable presence.
