Toole
St. Barnabas is a mission congregation sitting at the foot of the western slope of the Oquirrh Mountains, 27 miles from downtown Salt Lake City. Founded in 1963, the congregation began with 12 families meeting at various locations until a permanent home was established on Christmas Eve 1968 when 57 persons gathered for services at a former Army chapel. In 2004 we purchased land and constructed a new church with assistance from the diocese.
The Tooele Valley, where most of our parishioners reside, was once a predominantly ranching, farming and mining area. Now it is undergoing a rapid transformation. More and more people commute to work in the Salt Lake Valley but call the Tooele Valley home.
We have developed close ties to our community, sharing our worship space with numerous community organizations. Our parish was instrumental in the founding of the Tooele Food Bank, and we are the largest distribution point for the Community Food Bank of Utah.
