San Esteban
Recognizing that a majority of the Latino population in Salt Lake County is located in West Valley City, a new Latino mission was established in 2002 by holding a Spanish service on Saturday evening at St. Stephen’s. In 2005 the San Marcos Latino congregation moved from the St. Mark’s Cathedral to San Esteban, combining the two missions. San Esteban had its first Sunday service in Spanish on the First Sunday of Advent 2005.

In September 2009 The Church of the Good Shepherd in Ogden decided to host a Latino ministry and began offering a Spanish service on Sunday.

The mission and vision of San Esteban y el Buen Pastor is to provide a positive response to the Great Commission (St. Matthew 28:16-20) of our Lord Jesus Christ, to live in Him not only for ourselves but for others, and to follow His example to "Love by Incarnation" by:

  • putting ourselves in the other person's shoes, adapting our Anglican tradition to meet the needs, struggles and aspirations of another people,
  • taking on other cultures and languages so that our heritage may be enriched to reflect this new dimension,
  • identifying with and for Latinos without losing our identity, but rather re-discovering it.
  • a willingness to be involved with the total Latino community in an ecumenical dialog, of word and action, which will help us to better see and fulfill our role as Episcopalians, called to follow Christ, and our unity with Latinos.
